Despite having a large budget and having the rights, Netflix received a direct ban from the creator of the ‘One Piece’ manga himself. Here we tell you the details.

One Piece put Netflix back on the navigation map. The successful adaptation of the popular manga and of course, anime, made the streaming platform completely steal the conversation for several weeks thanks to the work of Iñaki Godoy, Emily Rudd and Mackenyu. Despite the good news, Eiichiro Oda himself, creator of the story, banned the production house.

It’s no secret that if you let Netflix take complete control of an adaptation, things don’t always turn out well, but ask Cowboy Bebop and Death Note. With this in mind, Oda personally oversaw the development of the live-action series, something that producer Steven Maeda recalled in an interview with TVLine.

One of Eiichiro Oda’s stipulations was once morest team romances. That’s a clear no when it comes to the manga and the live-action series.

Demon Slayer’, ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’ and other anime that need live-action

They might have legal authorization to adapt characters like Garp (Vincent Regan), Helmeppo (Aidan Scott), Koby (Morgan Davies), Usopp (Jacob Romero) or Sanji (Taz Skylar), but it would be absolutely impossible for the producers to even think regarding creating a loving bond between the main crew.

And with these clear indications, they made the first season of One Piece, something that undoubtedly brought good results, since fans and critics gave them a warm acceptance, so much so that the series broke some records and of course, Netflix confirmed the second season.
