the essentials Singapore Airlines paid nearly 1,300 euros to a couple who had to deal with a dog that snored and farted sitting next to them during a flight between Paris and Singapore.

Incivility on board planes is legion. But rarer are those emanating from our animal friends. And yet, these can be the cause of several inconveniences.

This was particularly the case for Gill and Warren Press, a New Zealand couple traveling between Paris and Singapore last June. During a 13-hour flight, the couple had to deal with a somewhat cumbersome dog, reports the site Insider.

The animal, a bulldog, was a specific assistance dog that helps people with mental disorders. He accompanied the couple’s neighbor on the plane.

Between the very loud snoring, lots of drooling, but also a whole series of smelly flatulence, the couple experienced a little ordeal. So much so that the spouses, in premium economy class, ended up agreeing to be downgraded to economy for the rest of the trip.

The amount donated to an association

Despite the apologies from Singapore Airlines for the inconvenience caused, but also gift vouchers (2 x 73 dollars) then two travel vouchers a month later (2 x 118 dollars), the New Zealand couple estimated that the account still wasn’t there.

After several discussions with the company, the latter ended up paying the couple the tidy sum of 1,410 dollars (or 1,300 euros). Gill and Warren Press, who indicate that they initiated these claims not for financial reasons but out of a principle of “responsibility”, have decided to return the money to the association Blind Low Vision NZ. An organization whose aim is to provide guide dogs to people with visual impairments in New Zealand.
