On board is the largest asteroid sample ever collected. The mission is accomplished for NASA. This is the end of a story that lasted 7 years. In September 2016, NASA sent a probe into space. Objective: take samples from the asteroid Bennu, a celestial body which has a one in 2,700 chance of hitting the earth.

“We have been waiting for a very long time for the return of this precious sample. It will be a joyous, moving and heartbreaking event“, says Jason Dworkin, Osiris-Rex project scientist. The probe managed to collect 250 g of material. Once recovered, the pieces will be studied in the laboratory. These analyzes are essential to understanding the functioning of our universe. The capsule must be exposed for as short a time as possible to the sand of the American desert in order to avoid any contamination of the samples. The first analyzes might be revealed as early as October 11.
