New research carried out by the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) highlighted the safety of vaccines once morest Covid-19 for pregnant women and babies, at any stage of pregnancy. The study is part of the Vigivac project and was published in the scientific journal International Journal of Epidemiologyfrom the University of Oxford.

The results of the work indicate that CoronaVac and Pfizer vaccines do not increase the risk of adverse birth outcomes. The data did not indicate a significant increase in babies born prematurely, underweight or small for gestational age, with an Apgar score below five or in neonatal deaths.

Another point is that there was a slight – but consistent – protection once morest premature birth in women who received different vaccine platforms during the third trimester of pregnancy.

According to researcher Manoel Barral – one of the scientists who wrote the article –, the survey consists of further scientific evidence that it is safe to use coronavirus vaccines in this population. It is worth highlighting that this audience pays greater attention due to immunological characteristics.

The study used information from more than 17 thousand live births in Rio de Janeiro in 2021, through a partnership between Fiocruz and the city of Rio de Janeiro.
