Alfa Romeo followed the trend by launching its SUV is sporty Tonal (pronounced “ Toned ), available in two hybrid versions: the mild-hybrid of 160 hp and the plug-in hybrid of 280 hp and also a diesel version of 160 hp). In between the two hybridizations, a hole that the Italian brand has decided to fill with a variant 190 hp plug-in hybridoffered from €49,900 in Sprint finish.
Still as elegant and distinctive
For the manufacturer, the challenge was set: to offer a car less powerfulbut still capable of displaying belles performancesa level of comfort and high-end finish, and less expensive. In fact, this plug-in hybrid Tonale directly competes with the rather Germanic references in the range, those of Mercedes and BMW.
“The machine can travel at least fifty kilometers (and up to 135 km/h) in electric mode”
On the design side, there is nothing to complain regarding: the Tonale is still as elegant, distinctive, with deliberately “vintage” bodywork elements that recall the glorious past of the snake brand. We find the very beautiful “Trilobo” grille with the honeycomb inverted triangle which houses the logo, the tapered and incisive light signature, the plunging bonnet, the chrome exhaust outlets and the cloverleaf rims.

Flexible and efficient
Inside, no big changes. The SUV is still as welcoming and comfortable, with rear space still generousflawless upholstery, quality finish top of the line. The only victim of the arrival of rechargeable hybridization: the chestwhich goes from 500 to 385 liters because of the electric motor placed on the rear axle.
On the road, the Tonale is still as pleasant to drive, flexible and efficient in all areas. The machine can in particular travel at least regarding fifty kilometers (up to 135 km/h) in electric mode. The brand announces almost 70 km, but you have to take away a little… Despite this, the Tonale can be used all day on an urban route without ever consuming a drop of gasoline. On a mixed course, it remains quite sober with a consumption of 6.7 L per 100 km.
The little extra : the small e-Save button on the central console allows you to adjust the mechanics in order to keep the battery level intact.
If it “caps” at 190 km/h, the machine is capable of going from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7 seconds. (©Alfa Romeo)
0 to 100 km/h in 7 seconds
In terms of performance, emerging from the specificities of hybridization, the Tonale SUV, powered by its 1.3 four-cylinder gasoline engine turbo supported by the 60 hp from the electric motor, does not disappoint. If it “peaks out” at 190 km/hthe machine is capable of reaching 0 to 100 km/h in just 7 seconds. Completely honorable performance, especially as an SUV, with 25 g of CO2 emitted per kilometer, escape to the ecological penalty. Ultimately, this version perfectly complements the Tonalé range and should give a boost to the SUV.
