This Sunday followingnoon, a violent fire ravaged a café on Langestraat in Ostend. According to information from HLN, it is “The Truth” café. The “Hemingway” café was also damaged, but more lightly. Fortunately, the incident did not cause any casualties, but as our colleagues point out, it was an arson. “The images show how someone lights the fire,” explains the mayor, Bart Tommelein.
The images show the extent of the damage. You can see the flames coming out of the cafe, although there are still a lot of people walking around the center at that time.
The cameras allowed the police to quickly understand that it was indeed a criminal act. A man can be seen in the footage working in the cafe for several minutes. Then, following hiding his face, he ends up setting the place on fire. “The suspect has not yet been arrested. The public prosecutor’s office has appointed a fire expert,” specifies the mayor.
Firefighters are still busy putting out the fire.
