Martinique continues to face a dengue epidemic. Disease monitoring indicators continue to progress, with a worrying increase in the number of cases among children.
A 15% increase in cases in one week
The virus of dengue still actively circulating in Martinique. The epidemiological situation in the territory shows no sign of improvement, as evidenced by the results of the week of September 11 to 17.
According to the figures relayed by the site Overseas La Premièrethe number of cases of dengue on the island increased over this period, with 830 patients seen in primary care, compared to 705 the previous week (from September 4 to 10). Health authorities note an increase of 15% in one week. There were reportedly 6,500 consultations for dengue syndrome.
A growing concern for children
Over the past two weeks, cases clinically suggestive of dengue were reported in 18 municipalities of the Martiniqueaccording to the Regional Health and Public Health Agency of France.
Health authorities are particularly concerned because 40 of the 67 emergency room visits recorded during the period from September 11 to 17 were pediatric cases. These visits to the emergency room resulted in 19 hospitalizations and according to the services of the House of Women, Mothers and Children, eight of the patients were children. Pediatric departments have also reported cases of severe thrombocytopenia.
