The Western Guiana Hospital Center (CHOG) has just acquired a new state-of-the-art analysis device, the first in the Antilles-Guyana. This instrument, called LIMUSAVE MT-7500 from Fujifilm Wako, promises to save many lives by quickly detecting the presence of microscopic fungi in patients’ blood.

Saint-Laurent-Du-Maroni – Jean-François Carod, medical biologist responsible for the laboratory at CHOG, expresses his pride in this new acquisition: “Today, we are really very happy. We are very proud to have set up, in a laboratory, a device which will save lives and which will allow the patients who need it the most to have a very quick response.”
The stakes are high. Many patients in the advanced stages of AIDS, untreated or poorly treated, find themselves without immune defenses, exposed to potentially fatal fungal infections. Before the arrival of this device, the detection of these fungi required samples to be sent to France, with a delay of several days to obtain the results.

With LIMUSAVE, waiting time is reduced to just a few hours. “We now have the answer in a few hours. Our infectious disease colleagues will be able to directly give good drugs for the right pathogen, that is to say the fungus in question, and therefore save lives”rejoices the biologist.

The device, of Japanese origin, stands out for its performance. Although other systems exist, the Fujifilm Wako is currently the most efficient according to studies, “this is the first in the Antilles-Guyana”underlines Jean-François Carod.
The CHOG is thus taking a major step forward in the care of patients suffering from infectious diseases, strengthening its position alongside the CHC as a reference center in the region.
