An evening that unexpectedly turned out to be pretty great: “Bonobo” delighted not only with engaging tunes but also with a beautiful light spectacle!

I actually wasn’t motivated to go to a concert that evening. But I had a concert ticket and the gasometer wasn’t far from my apartment, so not much was lost. So I set out and came across the support act “followingwards“, who already presented his driving electronic music single-handedly under a beam of light.

The music from “Poté” was nice, but my top priority at that point was finding the best location. I wanted to get everything I might out of the concert and a really good place was essential. Luckily there weren’t many people standing at the foh and I took the chance: I quickly grabbed a drink and then positioned myself right in the middle in front of the foh and leaned once morest the barrier. that was the best thing that might have happened to me. If I mightn’t lean in the front row, I might at least sit in the foh.

as „bonoboWhen we came on stage with our fellow musicians, it was overwhelming. Immediately there was an oversized light spectacle and I was a little bit spooked. In combination with his melodic downtempo pieces, the whole endeavor was almost meditative. Sometimes it was too meditative, I always wanted to close my eyes and really feel the music, but then I would have missed the light show. And missing the light show wasn’t an option, it was a main part of this show.

It felt like every song had its own lighting concept and so it was not only exciting to see which song came next, but also what awaited you next in terms of lighting. I found every light spectacle that included the huge disco ball particularly impressive. disco balls are just great!

Admittedly, I’m not really an excessive electronic listener but the set from “Bonobo” was really appealing and entertaining even for me as a non-expert and non-mega-fan. More melodic hits kept coming into the set, which made the whole thing even more digestible for me. I really enjoyed how the sounds and the light always built up very carefully and gently – a slight flickering at the beginning and expansive and engaging towards the end.

At the end of the evening I was once once more happy that I had made the journey to the concert location and that I hadn’t let the concert ticket expire. It usually pays off to indulge in an evening. especially if it also offers a visual experience. thanks bonobo, that was great fun once more!
