Disturbing Discovery: Eight Bodies Found in El Veladero National Park, Acapulco – Mexico’s Growing Missing Persons Crisis

Eight bodies were discovered in recent days in a national park near the tourist city of Acapulco, Mexico, a non-governmental organization announced on Friday.

“Eight bodies were brought down from the mountain,” said Socorro Gil, president of the Memory, Truth and Justice organization, during a press conference in Acapulco.

The bodies were discovered between Monday and Thursday in El Veladero National Park, a vast nature reserve that overlooks Acapulco Bay on Mexico’s Pacific coast.

This macabre discovery comes three weeks following the disappearance of seven people in Acapulco, kidnapped from a rehabilitation center. However, authorities have not established a link between the two events.

The state of Guerrero, of which Acapulco is the most populous city, is infested with criminal groups who constantly fight among themselves to expand their territory. According to authorities, 4,171 people are currently missing in the state.

Due to lack of results in police investigations, the families of the missing often undertake to search for their loved ones themselves in the countryside, equipped with shovels and picks. It is often NGOs who, using anonymous information, report the presence of mass graves to the authorities.
