The bus attacked on Thursday morning was carrying mainly women on their way to the market, and it had a police escort due to tensions in the Pusiga district, near the highly volatile Bawku area of the North-East region. .
The Bawku region is weakened by a conflict between community chiefdoms which often degenerates into violence, in addition to being threatened by an extension of jihadist abuses which are bloodying neighboring Burkina.
So far spared
In April, Ghana sent a thousand troops to the area to try to maintain calm. Ghana and its West African neighbors such as Togo, Benin and Ivory Coast are closely followed by the United States and other Western countries which intend to support them once morest the jihadists, who have notably taken control of almost 40% of neighboring Burkina Faso.
Until now, Ghana has been spared direct violence attributed to jihadists, unlike Togo, Benin or Ivory Coast.
The withdrawal of French troops from Mali, in the face of growing hostility and differences with the ruling junta, has refocused Westerners on aid to the countries of the Gulf of Guinea, in particular to avoid an expansion of jihadist violence towards the south.
