O Mastodon — one of the many social networks competing with Twitter version 4.2 with new features that make it even easier to use — especially when it comes to searches.
Essential on any social network, searches now have a list that contains the recent searches made by users, as well as suggestions to direct them to a hashtag corresponding to the query. It is possible to limit it to only displaying profiles, which display verification badges during the search to avoid confusion with imitators or bots.
Underneath the scenes, Mastodon reformulated all data indexes to make searches even more intuitive — which allows, for example, searching for keywords also present in the biography of a given profile (not just in the name, as currently).
Another feature that is also coming to Mastodon is the search for publications (toots). There are several filters for users to narrow their search, including the ability to only search for posts with links or polls, made by a specific user or between specific dates.
With changes in indicators of threads and in viewing articles and images, Mastodon also made the more intuitive sign-up flowgiving better guidance to users on how to proceed following creating a new account, guiding them on how to fill out their profile or follow people.
Finally, Mastodon 4.2 makes it easier to follow someone or take action when you are directed to a server other than your own from an external page. Now, it is no longer necessary to manually type the profile or post URL in the address bar, simply enter the domain of your Mastodon server to be automatically redirected to the same page on your server.
These and other Mastodon news are now available on the network’s main server (the @mastodon.social) and are optional for the others — although, as well noted by the TechCrunchmost other server administrators traditionally install platform updates quickly.
