2023-09-21 14:09:59

This Wednesday, September 20 at the Ministry of Health and Prevention, the General Directorate of Health recognized four young researchers on the occasion of the 1st edition of its “Policies and interventions in public health” thesis prize.

This thesis prize is the first and only in France to specifically recognize the work of young researchers in public health. It rewards the authors of theses whose results are particularly enlightening or promising for the implementation of innovative public policies and the evaluation of public policies.

With more than 80 theses submitted following the call for applications issued in November 2022, this first edition is a success.

Chaired by Dr Grégory Emery, Director General of Health, the jury is made up of 12 members designated from within the DGS, health agencies or research organizations under the supervision of the Ministry of Health and Prevention, as well as from French scientific figures in the field of public health.

After deliberation, the members of the jury unanimously decided on the following ranking of the winners:

1st prize to Marie POISEUIL for her thesis obtained at the University of Bordeaux on participation in breast cancer screenings in women and survival following breast cancer according to screening and sociodemographic inequalities.

2nd prize to Mélissa MACALLI for his thesis obtained at the University of Bordeaux on suicidal behavior among students: analysis and modeling of risk in the i-Share cohort.

3rd prize to Salam ABBARA for his thesis obtained at the University of Paris-Saclay on resistance in bacterial infections: contribution from the AP-HP health data warehouse.

Special “One Health” prize to Guillaume CROZET for his thesis obtained at the University of Paris Est-Créteil on the rabies risk associated with dogs and cats in mainland France: quantitative analysis and management methods.

This thesis prize is endowed with a sum of €9,000 divided between the 3 winners (€5,000 for the 1st, €3,000 for the 2nd and €1,000 for the 3rd).

It contributes to supporting research and innovation which is one of the major missions of the Ministry of Health and Prevention and the Directorate General of Health (DGS).

This award constitutes a useful tool to encourage research in priority areas of public health and to publicize the results of thesis work deemed particularly relevant to promote the implementation and evaluation of public policies.

Building on the success of this first edition and the quality of the winners’ work, a second edition is already scheduled for 2024.
