Vaccine administration. The pain of the injection can be reduced by breastfeeding the child before or during the injection, by distracting him with a toy, a cuddly toy, an image, sounds, a massage, gentle words… or by giving him a sugar solution before injection. Any food or liquid can be consumed by the child before or following oral vaccination with Rotarix.
Transmission of the vaccine strain. Live vaccine strains of rotavirus are excreted in the child’s stools with a peak around the seventh day. Reinforce hygiene rules and in particular wash your hands carefully following changing diapers the days following vaccination and limit any close contact of the child with people suffering from cancer and/or under immunosuppressive treatment.
Infection. Rotarix does not protect once morest causes of gastroenteritis other than rotavirus. In case of gastroenteritis in those around you, apply the usual protective measures: frequent hand washing, especially before preparing a meal, following diarrhea; change hand towels often; regularly disinfect surfaces such as toilets, door handles, telephones, sinks; do not share cutlery, pacifiers or baby bottles.

Bexsero: vaccine administered intramuscularly. The complete vaccination schedule includes 1 dose at the age of 3 months, 1 dose at 5 months, then a booster at 12 months. The most common side effects are tenderness and erythema at the injection site, irritability and fever usually disappearing within 24 hours.
Rotarix: oral vaccine packaged in a flexible single-dose tube, administered by a doctor or nurse on medical prescription. The gesture consists of gently pressing the liquid on the inside of a cheek. The vaccination schedule with the Rotarix vaccine includes 2 doses spaced at least 1 month apart: the first from the age of 6 weeks and up to 4 months and the second before the age of 6 months.
