The Tunisian Islamist movement “Ennahda” confirmed on Thursday the issuance of an arrest warrant once morest its vice-president, Mondher Ounissi, following his arrest more than two weeks ago.

Mondher Ounissi, who has held the presidency of Ennahdha since the incarceration on April 17 of its leader Rached Ghannouchi, was arrested on September 5 and referred to the judicial center for the fight once morest terrorism. His arrest followed a case of leaked recordings on social networks attributed to him. Last May, the leader of the Islamist party “Ennahdha”, Rached Ghannouchi, was sentenced to one year in prison by a Tunis court specializing in terrorism cases.

In early February, Tunisia saw a series of arrests of politicians, opposition figures, civil society activists, media executives and trade unionists, sparking a wave of indignation from several NGOs. for the defense of human rights.

These arrests, denounced locally and internationally, targeted leading political figures of the National Salvation Front and its main component, the Ennahdha movement.
