Living with Multiple Allergies: The Allergic Girl’s Journey to a Healthy Lifestyle

At 20 years old, Mia Silverman lives with more than 50 allergies, to the point where she always has to carry a list to remember all the foods she can’t eat. His EpiPen is now his best friend, since just regarding all of his allergies can result in a severe allergic reaction if consumed.

Peanuts, almonds, oils, sesame seeds, eggs, butter, cream, fruits, vegetables, fish, chocolates… Mia is literally allergic to almost everything, which complicates her daily life. “It’s hard not to eat what I want to eat. I have to eat healthy. The minute I eat processed foods, my problems start,” Mia Silverman tells Caters News.

The young American discovered her multiple allergies when she ate nut cookies at the age of two. “My throat immediately closed up. There were rashes all over my body and I was vomiting,” says Mia. After several tests at the hospital, doctors discovered that she had all these allergies. After that day, his allergies developed and got completely worse.

“I experienced a lot of bullying”

Mia suffered greatly from her allergies when she was younger, especially at school. “My mental health suffered a lot, I struggled at school. I experienced a lot of bullying, it was so difficult… I was afraid that anything I might eat might kill me,” she notes.

She who must always analyze what she consumes, Mia confides that she does not have the impression of “living a normal life”. Most of the time, she has to bring her food to social activities, which made her feel like she “wasn’t participating in anything.”
