A gallery in the US state of Minnesota is offering the first painting that artist Bob Ross (1942-1995) made in his TV painting course “The Joy of Painting” for almost ten million dollars (around 9.3 million euros). purchase. “The gallery takes all offers seriously, but is in no rush to sell,” said Ryan Nelson, owner of the Modern Artifact gallery in Minneapolis, to dpa today.

The oil painting “A Walk in the Woods” was created in the first episode of the painting show in 1983. According to media reports, a TV station volunteer then bought it for an undisclosed sum and had it hanging in her home for almost 40 years before she approached the gallery regarding selling it.

Born in Florida in 1942, Ross had spent years proclaiming the joys of painting in a gentle voice on his show “The Joy of Painting” – and thus won millions of fans worldwide. When he died in 1995, Ross left behind around 30,000 pictures, which critics see as more kitsch than high art.
