Sharjah International Storyteller Forum: Tales of Plants and Cultural Enrichment with Experts from 47 Countries

The Sharjah Institute for Heritage concluded on Wednesday evening the activities of the Sharjah International Storyteller Forum in its twenty-third session, which carried the slogan “Tales of Plants” and enriched the public with its diverse topics, cultural sessions and distinguished publications over three days, with the participation of more than 120 experts, researchers and storytellers from 47 countries. The participation of the State of Qatar as a guest for the session.

On this occasion, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Musallam said: “The forum was distinguished by holding 11 academic and cultural sessions and 32 educational and entertainment workshops during the morning and evening periods throughout the days of the event, and the signing of more than 40 books related to the topics of the session, and in line with the Year of Sustainability and sustainable agricultural development projects in the emirate. Sharjah is working towards achieving its major strategic development goals under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.”

Recommendations
For her part, Aisha Al-Hussan Al-Shamsi, Director of the Arab Heritage Center and General Coordinator of the Forum, reviewed during the closing ceremony the list of main recommendations discussed by the Forum and brought out by the elite speakers and experts participating in the scientific program of the event. Among the most important of these recommendations is the call to intensify research efforts in extracting and documenting the names and types of plants on earth. Their different names and geographical regions, in addition to preparing a comprehensive strategy for the dictionary of plants in the Arab world, with the participation of researchers from all Arab countries.

The recommendations included working on studying, investigating and republishing ancient manuscripts to examine the folk tale and the manifestations of its elements in the storytellers’ legacy, in addition to allocating a professional diploma for the mechanisms of using plants in the manufacture of manuscripts, in addition to hosting doctoral researchers in the field of heritage within the activities of the upcoming sessions of the forum, and allocating a financial grant to support projects. Field research in the Arab world.

The closing day of the event witnessed the holding of three cultural sessions. The first talked regarding the features of the presence of plants in folklore. It was moderated by Muhammad Salem bin Howeiden, and in which Dr. Yahya Al-Abali, Muhammad Baghdadi, Aida Qarawiyah, and Muhammad Qaddoura participated. The second discussed the use of plants and herbs in Medicines and decorations, moderated by Dr. Saeed Al-Haddad, with the participation of Fatima Al-Mughni, Dr. Shadi Khatib, Dr. Fatima Al-Zahra, and Sheherazade Al-Arabi, while the focus of the third session was the topic of using plants in industry and restoration, and it was moderated by Dr. Mustafa Gad, and Dr. Saleh Al-Lahibi and Sheikha Al-Mutairi spoke in it, And Moza Al-Ghafli.
