New York Mets Secure Victory over Miami Marlins in 8-3 Encounter

MIAMI — Mark Vientos hit more than one home run in a game for the first time in his career, Brandon Nimmo added a home run, a double and a single, and the New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins 8-3 on Wednesday.

Kodai Senga pitched six innings of two-run ball, while Brett Baty contributed another home run for the Mets, who secured victory in the three-game series once morest the playoff-bound Marlins.

Miami remained half a game behind the Chicago Cubs, who also lost on Friday but have the third wild card berth to the postseason in the National League.

Senga (12-7) allowed seven hits, struck out three and walked a pair. The Japanese rookie has allowed two runs or less in his last eight starts.

Venezuelan infielder Luis Arráez missed his second straight game with the Marlins due to a sprained left ankle.

The defeat went to the Dominican Eury Pérez (5-6), who received a solo home run from Vientos in the second inning. Vientos hit his second home run in the sixth inning.
