In Albertville, the precision shooting qualification phase delivered its verdict. There are only eight left to claim the title of European champion.

This Thursday, we heard a knock at the Olympic Hall in Albertville. The whole day was dedicated to precision shooting. Throughout the workshops, each competitor fought to be among the eight qualified for the rest of the competition. This morning, the first phase allowed the four best competitors to reach the quarters directly. Then, the drafts allowed players ranked 5th to 20th to scratch a ticket. Four other players were qualified following this second phase. The knockout matches are played this Saturday, before the final on Sunday. One-on-one confrontation games, with a higher stress factor…

Rizzi and Doerr take the lead

First to shoot, and first to qualify. This Thursday, at 9 a.m., it’s nothing more or less than the reigning champion who opens the ball. Diego Rizzi directly obtained his ticket, with a score of 43. Enough to finish at the top of this qualifying phase for the Italian. He was then joined by the Frenchman Ligan Doerr. Getting off to a bad start, the French gunner then released three corks on the last workshop (40 points). Same scenario for Jean-Pierre Le Lons, the representative of Monaco. With 36 points, he was in 4th position, tied with two other competitors. It passes thanks to a greater number of tiles. Logan Baton, wearing the colors of Belgium, completes this final four.

Spain is catching up

On the draft side, the fight was just as close. The two tied 4th places, the Dane Lasse Dithmar and the Czech Frantisek Kaplanek then missed the boat (62 and 61 points combined in the end). On the other hand, it was the Spaniard Manuel Higino Rimero Rubio who reversed the situation. Missing out in the morning (25 points), the Iberian hit hard in the followingnoon (47 points). He finished 1st in the repechage, ahead of the Swede Ivar Liljegren (70 pts). Regular, Gregor Sever, for Slovenia, will also see the quarters (66 pts). Finally, Mesut Duruk takes the last spot among the eight (66). He beats Luxembourger Claudio Contardi, author of fewer tiles, to the post.
