Shakira is a content generation machine. It is something indisputable. Four months following releasing the single Acróstico, the Colombian released El Jefe, a song she performs alongside the Mexican regional group Fuerza Regida: in less than 24 hours the video exceeds 4 million views on YouTube.
El Jefe, like almost everything Shakira releases, gave something to talk regarding. It is a direct letter. Or a complaint regarding workplace mistreatment. At minute 2:38, for example, the singer makes a dedication to “Lili Melgar”, apparently the ex-nana of her children.
“Lili Melgar, this song is for you, because they didn’t pay you compensation,” says Shakira. In the video clip, which was directed by Jora Frantzis and recorded in Miami, it is seen that while the Barranquilla native mentions these words, she makes a gesture touching her elbow, something that means “stingy” in several Spanish-speaking regions.
But not all the attention is focused here. In another section of this catchy regional Mexican topic, something also came to light that for many was a surprise. In one of the verses, Shakira supposedly referred to Joan Piqué, Piqué’s father.
“What irony, how crazy, this is torture. You kill yourself from dawn to dusk and you don’t even have a single piece of writing. They say that there is no evil that lasts more than a hundred years. But there is still my ex-father-in-law who does not set foot in the grave,” says that part of the song.
Joan Piqué is a renowned Spanish businessman, 63 years old, who according to international media does not suffer from any health problem that puts his life at risk. According to Vanity Fair Magazine, “we might assume that the author of Loba or Hips don’t lie and the Catalan did not have a very good relationship.”

And, according to the aforementioned magazine, when the separation of the marriage between Shakira and Piqué became official, the athlete’s father would have asked the Colombian to vacate the mansion in which she lived with her ex-husband in Esplugues de Llobregat, Barcelona, valued at 14 million euros.
