As part of the adoption of the Ecological Transition Plan under the theme Act now for tomorrow, the mayor, Liza Poulin, announced a first major concrete gesture, namely, the protection of 140.6 hectares of natural environments. These will also soon be registered in the Metropolitan Directory of Municipal Conservation Initiatives of the Metropolitan Community of Montreal (CMM). To illustrate this area, this is equivalent to 195 soccer fields.
These are the Equestrian Park woodland, the Plan Bouchard woodland, the Grand Coteau woodland (land located between Asbestos and Martin streets in Le Grand Coteau), the Locke Head stream woodland which runs along the boulevard de la Seigneurie Ouest, the future wooded area of Chambéry as well as the ravines of Fontainebleau.

“The City’s desire to protect these magnificent sites will now be included in this directory. Once registered, these sites will represent nearly 11% of municipal initiatives for the conservation of natural environments listed in the directory of the Metropolitan Community of Montreal. Blainville is therefore doing very well and is at the head of the CMM cities in terms of conservation of natural environments,” mentioned Ms. Poulin.
In addition to this major announcement, the very first actions that will be carried out by the City will be:
The production of an inventory of greenhouse gas emissions in the Blainville region The adoption and implementation of regulations to limit the use of certain single-use items, such as straws, glasses, plastic bags and trays The creation of a plan to combat urban heat islands The distribution of compost to citizens of the City during general public events, such as the party at the Park, in order to thank them for their participation for collections of green and food waste
These actions are therefore intended to be spark plugs for the continuation of the Ecological Transition Plan.
