Iran has nominated the film “Nahhaban Shab” (The Night Watchman) by director Reza Mirkarimi to compete for the 2024 Oscar in the Best Foreign Film category.

The film, which was shown last year, deals with the difficult and arduous life of Rasoul, a rural worker trying to earn a living in the capital, Tehran.

The Farabi Film Foundation announced on Tuesday that the nomination committee “selected Nakhban Shab, directed by Reza Mirkarimi, to represent Iranian cinema at the 2024 Oscars.”

“The Night Watchman” will be among the films seeking to qualify for the semi-finals in the Best Foreign Film category from among dozens of nominations from various countries around the world. Then the Oscar Academy will reserve five works for the final nominations list, among which the winner of the award will be.

Mirkarimi (56 years old) won the Best Film Award at the Fajr Film Festival in Tehran in 2005 for “So Far, So Soon,” while his film “Today” was nominated for Oscars in 2005.

Almost every year since 1994, the Farabi Foundation has selected the Iranian film that participates in the Oscar race.

Last year, Iran nominated the film “The Third World War” by director Homan Sidi to represent it in the Oscar race.

The famous Iranian director Asghar Farhadi won the Oscar for Best Foreign Film twice, the first for “Separation” in 2011 and the second for “The Salesman” in 2017.
