For much of the pandemic, the strategy worked, but the relaxation of rules led to a jump in detected cases. The high vaccination rate of the population has, however, limited the number of deaths. The independent inquiry, lasting 12 months, will examine federal government policy, the government said. It will look at the provision of vaccines, treatments and essential medical equipment, financial aid to individuals and businesses, mental health assistance, and assistance to Australians overseas.

“Serious” errors in New South Wales

Some Australian states have already published their own surveys. The New South Wales investigation found “serious” errors were made when thousands of passengers were allowed to disembark from the Ruby Princess cruise liner in Sydney on March 19, 2020, before their test results were available. Covid-19 are not available, triggering an epidemic wave. Since January 2020, the country of 26 million inhabitants has recorded more than 11 million cases of Covid-19 and 22,800 deaths, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
