Pope Francis has called for an end to the attacks that erupted yesterday in the South Caucasus region of Nagorno-Karabakh, where conflicts have existed for a long time, and to restore peace in the region. Pope Francis recalled that he received disturbing news from Nagorno-Karabakh.

As usual in the Vatican, on the occasion of the public meeting granted by the Pope on Wednesday, September 20, the Pope called for the attention of the parties involved in the conflicts and the international community to take necessary measures to end this conflict in the South Caucasus.

The Pope called for an end to armed attacks in the region and to find peaceful solutions to the problems by all means for the good of the common people and human dignity.

Several people were injured and two people were killed in an attack carried out by Azerbaijan on Tuesday, September 19, in the separatist zone between Armenia and Azerbaijan, in the name of an “anti-terrorist operation,” Armenian authorities said.

Yesterday, Azerbaijan launched a counter-attack following several people, including policemen, were killed in attacks from the Armenian side. The majority of the population of the Nagorno-Karabakh region is of Armenian origin.
