Sharjah, September 20 / WAM / His Excellency Major General Saif Al Zari Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, stressed the importance of launching proactive preventive initiatives that include a package of measures that work to protect segments of society from falling into the clutches of cybercrime in its various forms and types. This came during the visit of His Excellency the Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, accompanied by a number of senior officers in the command, to the “Be Aware” awareness campaign platform launched by the Departments of Media and Public Relations and Investigations and Criminal Investigations to educate the public regarding falling victim to fraud and electronic blackmail by broadcasting awareness messages to community members via “ Cinema Screens” with the aim of spreading awareness regarding the dangers of electronic games and the crimes of fraud and electronic blackmail that children may face, in cooperation with “Fox Cinema”.

His Excellency said in a statement to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, that prevention is more important than treatment in these cases, and through our dealings with the reports we receive, we are surprised that the criminal is from outside the country and the victim is from inside the country, incurring large sums of money in some cases. Therefore, we decided in the leadership to launch this awareness campaign.” .

His Excellency praised the efforts of the work team from the Criminal Investigation and Research Department in the distinguished preparation for it, as it includes the energies and competencies of young people who possess great knowledge in the electronic field and are able to keep pace with criminal development, indicating that the platform will be transferred at a later period to a number of schools and universities in the emirate to achieve the greatest amount of benefit. Its outputs will also be studied to study opportunities for improving it in the future to achieve a safe society free of impurities.

For his part, Brigadier Omar Abu Al-Zawd, Deputy Director of the Criminal Investigation Department at Sharjah Police, told WAM that the first half of this year witnessed an increase in the number of reports submitted regarding electronic crimes, reaching 351 reports compared to 117 reports in the same period last year. Electronic fraud came in The introduction of these crimes increased from 11 reports to 60 reports in the same period.

He added that the “Be Aware” platform represents a cyber corridor that includes six stations, each of which focuses on one of the methods used in electronic crimes that begin with electronic blackmail, then electronic hacking, all the way to electronic games, which in turn is witnessing a large demand among young people, calling on members of society and parents. It is important to visit the platform that gives the visitor the opportunity to experience the role of the victim and then provides him with ways to prevent these crimes that sometimes appear in commercial advertisements and electronic links.

Brigadier General Abu Al-Zawd explained that the awareness platform that was organized last year attracted the interest and visits of more than one million and 200 thousand people on the various platforms of the Sharjah Police General Command, pointing out that we seek, through this year’s platform, to exceed this number to achieve the desired goals and make preventive measures a way of life.
