mThree years following Kan’s death, his father and mother listen to his heartbeat. Kit Blake, 30, of Norwich, Norfolk, England, died in the spring of 2020. Four of his organs, including his heart, were donated to others. Kit Blake’s father and mother listened to their son’s heartbeat with a stethoscope when they finally met 64-year-old Tim Head, who received their son’s heart three years later. “It gave me a little bit of strength,” Blake’s mother said. “Kit helped Tim Head. It’s amazing to think that his life is so different now than it was because he was so poor.” They added.

Tim Head, from Northamptonshire, had dilated cardiomyopathy (a disease that weakens the walls of the heart). After being ill for five years, Tim claimed he wanted to die before undergoing heart surgery. He added that meeting Blake’s family, the owner of his beating heart, was a “very emotional” moment. “It’s a hard thing to take in. I look at them knowing that I got their son’s heart…. Not a day goes by that I don’t think regarding what I went through and how other family members are dealing with this.” He said. “I’m enjoying life now, it’s amazing. Working full time. “Yeah, I’m living a normal life now,” Tim Head told the BBC.

When Kit Blake died at the age of 30, he was not on the list of organ donors. After speaking with a specialist post-mortem nurse, the family gave consent for Kit’s organs to be used to help others. In England, 1,643 people received organ transplants in the last six months. But there are still 7,219 people on the waiting list for matching organs. Last year, 439 patients died without matching organs. Last week, Organ Donation Week was launched in Britain to recruit 25,000 new organ donors to the national register.
