ALGIERS – The need to support local producers and technological transfer to Algeria in solar energy was underlined, Tuesday in Algiers, by several experts in the sector during a seminar on renewable energies in Algeria.

During this seminar organized jointly by the National Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CNESE) and the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Commission (Cerefe), the president of the “Solar Energy” cluster, Mehdi Bendimerad, spoke regarding the interest in supporting local companies operating in the field of ENR, in particular by giving them “more visibility”.

Mentioning the opportunity represented by the national ENR development program for the local industrial fabric, Mr. Bendimerad however noted certain constraints to be removed for the development of ENRs with a high integration rate.

The president of the cluster thus underlined the need to reduce taxation on solar panel inputs, currently subject to customs duties of 15 to 30%, according to him.

Furthermore, according to the teacher-researcher at the Houari-Boumediene University of Science and Technology in Algiers, Mohamed Boudour, technology transfer is also an axis for the development of renewable energies in the country.

To do this, Mr. Boudour calls for the establishment of coordination between the different sectors while developing laboratories and public and private research centers in this sector.

This, he said, should also make it possible to capitalize on the experiences acquired over the past ten years by public economic groups but also by private operators active in solar energy.

“There are technological sectors in solar where Algeria can be operational in the short term,” affirmed the teacher-researcher, specifying that national capacities exist in particular with regard to the development of diagnostic and monitoring tools. .

Explaining that savings of several million dollars can be made thanks to the use of local capacities, Mr. Boudour estimated that technological transfer must be suggested or even imposed on foreign developers through legal texts.

For his part, the researcher at the Renewable Energy Development Center (CDER), Abdelhamid Mraoui, considered collaborative work between researchers and industrialists necessary to make the sector attractive in terms of investment.

According to him, it is regarding developing solutions adapted to the industry through research as part of a research and development process.
