A report by US News and World Report revealed a list of the best countries in the world in terms of “quality of life.”
The magazine surveyed the opinions of more than 17,000 people around the world, with the aim of classifying the 87 listed countries according to the best quality of life.
The report relied on several criteria, including product prices, labor market quality, economic, political and security stability, income equality, and the quality of the health and education sector.
Sweden ranked first as the best country in the world in terms of quality of life, specifically affordability, safety, and more.
According to a Numbeo report, the average cost of living in Sweden is 20.9% lower than in the United States, while rent is 57.5% lower.
Sweden is also famous for its free health care and university education.
According to the CIA World Factbook, Swedish people have the longest life expectancy, with an average lifespan of 82.8 years.
The country has an excellent policy for childhood leave, whereby parents are entitled to 480 days of paid leave upon the birth or adoption of a child. If both parents work, each of them gets 240 of those days.
Norway comes in second place as the best country in the world in terms of quality of life. Childhood leave in the country enables parents to split the care of their children at home for up to 49 weeks at full salary or 59 weeks at 80% of their salary.
Norway also provides a monthly allowance to families one month following the child’s birth until the child reaches the age of 18 to cover some of the costs of raising the children.
The average life expectancy in Norway is 82.75 years, which is very close to the average life expectancy in Sweden.
Since 2013, Norway has been ranked among the top 10 countries in terms of citizen happiness in the world, according to the World Happiness Report.
Canada ranked third on the list, as the country is famous for its population’s ability to afford living costs and access to good education and health care system.
The average life expectancy is 83.99 years, which is 3.24 years higher compared to the United States.
Canada outperforms the global average in income, jobs, education, health, environmental quality, social relationships and life satisfaction, according to the OECD’s Life Index.
Canada has universal health care coverage, where citizens have a health system funded primarily by tax revenues.
