US President Joe Biden, during his speech at the UN General Assembly, called for opposition to Russian aggression once morest Ukraine, and also stated that only the Russian Federation is responsible for this war. His speech quotes CNN.
He noted that like all countries in the world, the United States wants the war to end and “no one wants the end of this war more than Ukraine.”
“Only Russia is responsible for this war. Only Russia is capable of ending it immediately, and only Russia stands on the path to peace. Because the price that Russia wants for this world is the capitulation of Ukraine, Ukrainian territories and children. Russia believes the world will tire and allow it to brutalize Ukraine unchecked. But I ask you this: if we abandon the basic principles of the UN Charter to appease an aggressor, can any Member State feel confident that it is protected? If we allow Ukraine to be dismembered, will the independence of any of the countries be ensured? The answer is no. We must oppose this direct aggression now to deter potential future aggressors,” Biden said.
He added that supporting Ukraine in its defense once morest Russian invasion is “an investment not only in the future of Ukraine, but in the future of every country” that values the UN’s core principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The 78th session of the UN General Assembly is taking place in New York. On September 19, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky is scheduled to speak at the UN headquarters.
