2006. Etchecolatz is convicted of genocide
Miguel Etchecolatz is sentenced to life imprisonment and sent to the Marcos Paz prison for kidnappings, torture and murders in the context of the operation that devastated a house in La Plata: the occupants were killed and the baby Clara Anahí Mariani, who had three and a half months old when they took her. The commissioner had relied on Due Obedience to avoid prison. His conviction is the second following the annulment of the Full Stop and Due Obedience laws; the previous one had been to Julio Simón, alias “El Turco Julián”. The novelty in Etchecolatz’s conviction lies in the fact that the court sentences him for genocide. A day before, the witness Jorge Julio López had disappeared, who has not been seen once more. The repressor added more sentences in the following years and they were unified into a single sentence of life imprisonment.
Plus, it’s Preceptor’s Day.
