UEMOA: journalists are trained on the challenges of the economic situation

At the initiative of the UEMOA commission, a training workshop on the challenges of the economic situation is being held in Saly (Mbour) in Senegal from September 18 to 23, 2023. The opening of the work was chaired by the representative resident of the Commission in Senegal, Ms. Aïssa Kabo.
Around forty media people representing the 8 countries of the Union are taking part under the direction of Professor Seydi Ababacar Dieng, teacher-researcher in economics at the University of Dakar. The communications are focused around theoretical and practical aspects of accounting, currency and financing of the economy, the regulation of economic activity, the Zlecaf (African Continental Free Trade Area), etc. in order to improve the skills of journalists.
For the resident representative of the , this workshop aims to train media professionals, who are interested in economic and financial issues: “Experience has shown that it is not always easy for economic journalists, in editorial offices , to perfectly master the language and mechanisms, sometimes complex, of the economic and financial field(…). Our hope is that through your pens, your sounds and your images, populations will be made more aware of the development issues raised by the Union, particularly through the Union’s Priority Action Framework for the period 2021-2025 (CAP 2025.”
This session is the fulfillment of a promise from the president of the Union commission in 2022. He then received at the commission headquarters in Ouagadougou, members of the UEMOA Mediaş platform who had expressed a specific need for be equipped on certain aspects of the economy in general and the sectoral policies led by the UEMOA for almost 30 years.
Léonard Dossou, head of the journalists’ platform, thanked the President of the Commission and the Union’s Director of Communications for this initiative which has strengthened cooperation between the media and the commission since 2020. He wished his colleagues a happy good session in order to better take into account these complex questions in their daily work of processing economic information.
