As promised during its special back-to-school event, Apple has activated the two even more generous iCloud+ offers. If you’re feeling too cramped with the 2TB maximum offered so far, then you might appreciate these new offerings. Apple indeed offers 6 TB of storage for €29.99 per month or even no less than 12 TB in the cloud, for €59.99 per month. These generous storage spaces can be shared between the entire iCloud family, or kept for yourself if you have very big needs.

Even though the iCloud+ plan grid has expanded upwards, it has not moved at the bottom, which would probably have suited most people. Let’s not talk regarding the free offer which remains with its poor 5 GB which will take you nowhere – this has been the case since the creation of iCloud and it’s been almost twelve years now Apple, twelve years… —, even the other levels remained at their old levels. Here is the new grid:
5 GB: free; 50 GB: €0.99 per month; 200 GB: €2.99 per month; 2 TB: €9.99 per month; 6 TB: €29.99 per month; 12 TB: €59.99 per month.
The gulf between the 200 GB formula and the 2 TB formula remains as large as ever, which is obviously not innocent. Like the author of these lines, there are undoubtedly a large number of users who might not be satisfied with 200 GB, but who do not need 2 TB of storage. You have to manage a very large number of large files in iCloud Drive, or take a lot of photos and especially 4K videos to fill the terabytes, knowing that backups of iOS devices always remain quite modest in size.
Maybe Apple might finally offer a backup solution for Macs, now that we have options with so many terabytes? A Time Machine in iCloud would likely appeal to users, including professionals who manage a lot of large files on their Mac. Nothing like this at the moment, Apple is content to increase the number of options without adding functions.
Remember that iCloud+ is associated with multiple additional services provided by Apple, such as private relay which protects your connection, management of HomeKit cameras with secure video, temporary email addresses or even the possibility of using your own domain name to iCloud mailbox.
