Ras Al Khaimah, September 18 / WAM / Canadian antiquities expert, Dr. Maida Al Tayyar, member of the Canadian Association for the Preservation of Cultural Properties (CIC), praised the great interest that the country’s wise leadership gives to the cultural heritage of the Emirates and the preservation of its archaeological treasures.

Dr. Al Tayyar, accredited by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), praised the distinguished historical and traditional heritage collections of His Excellency Sheikh Abdul Malik bin Kayed Al Qasimi, Special Advisor to His Highness the Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah.

His Excellency Sheikh Abdulmalik bin Kayed Al Qasimi welcomed Dr. Maeda Al Tayyar’s visit to his private museum in Ras Al Khaimah, stressing that this visit is an initiative that we congratulate in the context of his interest in the museum’s collections, his great personal keenness to preserve heritage from extinction, his initiatives supporting personal museums in the emirate, and his continued acquisition of many heritage pieces. Dr. Maeda Al-Tayyar said, “After reviewing the collections, studying them, and comparing them to other museums, we found distinct collections in the Museum of His Excellency Sheikh Abdulmalik bin Kayed Al Qasimi, of great historical and heritage value, bearing witness to the history of science and arts, such as the collection of astrolabes and the collection of Islamic traditional weapons, some of which date back to the second century.” The tenth century AD, the era of the conqueror Saladin Al-Ayyubi, and others dating back to the era of the knights, such as the sword made in German Solgen and the Portuguese sword from the sixteenth century, in addition to rifles, which is a distinctive and unique collection.”

She pointed out that the private museum of His Excellency Sheikh Abdulmalik bin Kayed Al Qasimi also contains a good collection of pottery and faience vessels dating back to Islamic times. As for the metal vessels, they are distinguished by the beauty of their engravings, the precision of their workmanship, and their diversity, in addition to wooden panels carved with Qur’anic verses in Naskh and Kufic script.

Dr. Al-Tayyar expressed her admiration for the large and diverse collection of hand-copied manuscripts and major Qur’ans, which are considered a great historical wealth. She described the collections of His Excellency Sheikh Abdul Malik Al Qasimi as diverse and specialized museums in a large, general and comprehensive museum that can feed the region’s museums with its rare and precious archaeological and heritage collections.

It is noteworthy that Dr. Maeda Al-Tayyar has more than 30 years of practical experience in the field of developing and preserving popular heritage, restoring it, and documenting historical monuments and monuments, in addition to her work as a professional artist in the fields of ceramics, pottery, and fashion design.
