The Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday promoted Kelly McCrimmon to general manager, while his predecessor George McPhee will continue to serve as president of hockey operations.

Despite this appointment, it is McPhee who will continue to make decisions related to hockey operations while McCrimmon will participate in discussions and will be the representative during meetings with the other general managers.

McCrimmon was named assistant GM on August 2, 2016 and helped lead the Nevada franchise to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2018. Having assisted McPhee in his daily tasks, he was also an important part during the draft expansion held in June 2017.

“Working with the Golden Knights has been a rewarding experience and I am very grateful to have this opportunity,” he commented in a press release. I would like to thank [le propriétaire] Bill [Foley]George and the entire team for their support and commitment.”

“Kelly has been an important addition to our leadership group. His character, leadership, knowledge of hockey and evaluation of players, both professionally and at the amateur level, have been exceptional. We are confident that he will excel in his new role. We will continue to build a club that our fans will be proud to support,” added McPhee.

The latter had occupied the seat of GM of the Washington Capitals before finding himself at the New York Islanders as an advisor to GM Garth Snow. The Knights hired him on July 13, 2016. Las Vegas lost in seven games in the first round of this series to the San Jose Sharks. In the regular season, the team took third place in the Pacific Division with 93 points in the standings.
