Lucknow: India’s veteran tennis player Rohan Bopanna ended his Davis Cup career with a win.
Bopanna returned following winning the World Group 22 match once morest Morocco. Bopanna and Yuki Bhambri defeated Elliott Benchetrit and Yones Lalami in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 in the doubles at the Mini Stadium. 43-year-old Bopanna had made it clear that he would not continue to play in the Davis Cup.
India beat Morocco 3-1. In the singles, Sasikumar Mukund was unable to complete the match due to injury and Morocco was leading 1-0. Sasikumar withdrew while the match once morest Yasine Dilimi was progressing 7-6 (4), 5-7, 1-4. India progressed when Sumit Nagal beat Yasin Dilimi in the reverse singles. Score: 6-3, 6-3.
Bopanna played 50 matches in the Davis Cup. Won 23 matches including 13 doubles. Rohan Bopanna’s family and close friends had come to Lucknow to watch the match. The fans came wearing t-shirts with Bopanna’s picture.
