The noble helper arrives in Madrid as an acclaimed winner. Jumbo-Visma celebrates total triumph.
Now it’s official. The American Sepp Kuss won the 78th Tour of Spain in Madrid as both an acclaimed and surprising winner. The 29-year-old from Colorado, actually a noble assistant to Jonas Vingegaard and Primoz Roglic, won ahead of his two teammates on the 101 km from Hipodromo de la Zarzuela to Madrid.
Kuss triumphed in the overall standings with a lead of 17 seconds over Vingegaard and 1:08 minutes over Roglic. The 29-year-old from Colorado is the first American in 10 years to win one of the three major national tours. In 2013, Chris Horner also triumphed in Spain.

Last stage at Groves
Kaden Groves secured victory in the mass sprint on the 21st and final stage in the greater Madrid area. For the Australian it was the third day victory at this year’s Vuelta.
Stefan Bissegger, the only Swiss who started in Barcelona a good three weeks ago, also reached the finish. The 25-year-old from Thurgau finished outside the top 100, almost 4 hours behind Kuss.

Stefan Küng is prepared for next week’s European Championships with the time trial on Wednesday. The Thurgauer finished the lower-class Tour of Slovakia in second place. After five stages, the gap to the Frenchman Rémi Cavagna was 2:16 minutes. The Valaisian Antoine Debons took 13th place in the 100-strong field, almost five minutes behind.
