Rai Benjamin dominated Karsten Warholm in the 400m hurdles at the Diamond League finals. With the key being the 4th best time in history on Saturday in Eugene.

Benjamin (26 years old) made his finish speak for himself to catch up with Warholm in the final straight and achieve the best world performance of the season in 46”39, the 4th fastest time in history.

The two athletes offered a Homeric duel in the final of the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2021, with Warholm seizing the world record (45”94).

At the World Championships in Budapest at the end of August, the Norwegian won a third world crown (following 2017 and 2019), with Benjamin only taking the bronze medal.

Coleman beats Lyles in 100m

The American Christian Coleman, 2019 world champion, beat the very recent 100m world champion Noah Lyles. Thanks to a superb first half of the race, Coleman was able to cross the line in 9”83 (0.1 m/s wind), thus equaling the best world performance of the year, already achieved by the Briton Zharnel Hughes ( in New York in June), by Noah Lyles (in Budapest in August) and by himself (in Xiamen, China, two weeks ago).

Left behind halfway through the race, Lyles came back at the end to take second place in 9”85, ahead of the Kenyan Ferdinand Omanyala, 3rd, by a thousandth. Lyles (26) became the new boss of world sprinting thanks to a resounding 100/200/4x100m hat-trick at the World Championships in Budapest last month. Coleman disappointed with a 5th place in the 100m, before winning the 4x100m relay title.

Shericka Jackson’s revenge

In the women’s 100m, Shericka Jackson took her revenge from Budapest. The Jamaican won in 10”70 ahead of Marie-Josée Ta Lou in 10”75. Elaine Thompson-Herah completed the podium in 10”79.

Disappointment for world champion Sha’Carri Richardson, only 4th in 10”80.
