Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the highly anticipated sequel to Remake de Final Fantasy VII which was released in 2019, and the follow-up is only a few months away.

2019 Final Fantasy VII is the remake of the beloved classic that was originally released for PlayStation in 1997. However, when the remake arrived 22 years later, it was such a big project that it had to be split into two games.

The development of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth started in November 2019 before the release of Remake de FFVII but was only actually announced to the world in June 2022. Since then, fans have been wondering when the second part of the highly anticipated remake would arrive. We knew it would launch in early 2024, but we never got an exact date. That was until now.

“The action-packed trailer introduces iconic characters Cloud, Aerith, Barret and Tifa to a sci-fi and fantasy-inspired world teeming with danger at every turn,” reads the game’s description. Unlikely heroes join forces with new playable companions, including Yuffie, a member of Wutai’s elite corps of ninja agents, Red XIII, a beast with a flaming tail who occasionally offers words of wisdom to Cloud’s group , and Cait Sith, a wacky feline-shaped robot who is often seen atop his big moogle buddy, to hunt down Sephiroth, the one-winged angel determined to rule the planet.

At this week’s State of Play event, not only were we treated to a great new trailer, but the game’s release date was also announced. Following the release date reveal, we have since learned that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will reportedly feature nearly 100 hours of content.

The 100 hour time estimate may not surprise those who have completed Remake de Final Fantasy VII in its entirety. According to HowLongToBeat.com, finalists can take more than 86 hours to experience everything Remake de FFVII has to offer. It is therefore logical that Renaissance being a sequel would offer even more content than its predecessor.

Remake de Final Fantasy VII producer Yoshinori Kitase, director Naoki Hamaguchi, and creative director Tetsuya Nomura posted a series of tweets detailing what to expect in the upcoming game. During the tweet in three partsHamaguchi not only teased fans with “free exploration” of the map, but also “nearly 100 hours of adventure awaits.”

In related news, it was revealed that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has a very short PlayStation 5 exclusivity window, so might an Xbox Series X|S release of both parts of the remake finally be on the way? Only time will tell. Furthermore, unfortunately, Square Enix lost a value of 2 billion dollars despite the launch of Final Fantasy XVI.

For now, at least, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is exclusive to PlayStation 5 and its release date is February 29, 2024.
