Summary

Upon returning from the international break, CF Montreal settled for a 0-0 draw once morest the Chicago Fire on Saturday, in a sixth full house this season at Stade Saputo.

Montrealers welcomed the Fire, a direct rival who is right on their heels in the Eastern Association standings. The Bleu-blanc-noir remained in eighth place with a harvest of 35 points.

Jonathan Sirois still achieved a feat with an 11th shutout which equals an MLS record.

CF Montreal had a good start to the match during which Kwadwo Opoku notably served a beautiful header which was stopped at the last minute on a dive from goalkeeper Chris Brady on his right in the 15th minute of play.

Brady was then saved by his crossbar a few minutes later, while the CFM led 5-0 in shots.

Zachary Brault-Guillard, highly sought following, also stood out in one of his best matches of the year, just like Nathan Saliba, narrowly missing the target from the start.

CF Montreal was a little more disjointed when returning from the locker room, before making the first substitutions in favor of the arrival of Ariel Lassiter and Chinonso Offor, who replaced Lassi Lappalainen and Jules-Anthony Vilsaint respectively.

Romell Quioto, who had not played since May 13 once morest Toronto FC, finally made his comeback to the competition in the last 15 minutes of regulation time to take Opoku’s place. He jumped onto the field to loud applause from the crowd. Quioto returned to training with his teammates just this week, following suffering a hamstring injury.

Shortly following, Offor almost finally broke the ice for the CFM by trying to complete Bryce Duke’s delivery on a race that was a little too late. Hernan Losada’s men made one last effort while Offor, Duke and Lassiter were in turn frustrated by the young 19-year-old opposing goalkeeper as the final whistle approached.
