Australian actor Hugh Jackman, the character of Wolverine in the “X-Men” film series, and his wife Deborra-Lee Furness announced their separation following 27 years of marriage.
They said in a joint statement received by People magazine, which specializes in celebrity news: “We have decided to separate so that each of us can continue our development on a personal level.”
In this statement, which is expected to be the only statement on the subject of their separation, the couple confirmed that they “were fortunate to live together for almost three decades as a couple in an amazing, loving marriage.”
They added: “We begin this new phase with gratitude, love and kindness.”
The two actors met in 1995 during the filming of the series “Corelli,” and then they married a year later.
At that stage, Deborra-Lee Furness had achieved fame, especially thanks to her role in the movie “Chaim”, while Hugh was still a recent graduate with a degree in dramatic artistic studies.
Hugh achieved international fame in 2000, following playing the role of “Wolverine” in the first part of the “X-Men” series, in parallel with his career on Broadway. Hugh (54 years old) and Deborah (67 years old) have a son (Oscar – 23 years old) and a daughter named
(Ava – 18 years old). They said in the statement, “Our family has been and will always remain our most important priority.”
