2023-09-16 21:53:37

The savannah sector has been, since April 2023, a dengue epidemic hotbed. Over the last two weeks (since the beginning of September), half of the dengue cases recorded came from Kourou… and the numbers continue to increase.

During the summer holidays, the dengue epidemic affecting the space city spread. “Among the 172 cases confirmed over the last two weeks for which the municipality of residence is known, 22 were recorded on the West Coast, 36 on the island of Cayenne, 86 in the Savanes sector and two on the Maroni“, indicates Santé Publique France in the epidemiological update of September 14.

The number of visits to the CHK emergency room has remained stable at a high level over the last two weeks with 81 visits recorded in total over 15 days (compared to 70 in S33 and S34). Among these passages, 20 were subject to hospitalization in W35 and W36 (compared to 10 in W33 and W34)

With the upcoming arrival of the rainy season, conducive to the development of mosquito larvae, the Regional Health Agency of Guyana fears a continuation of this growth. Prevention campaigns will then be strengthenedannounces the ARS in the Pro Letter of September 15. The good reflexes are recalled, here they are:

Empty containers likely to retain water (especially flower pots), clean your gutters, wear long clothes and use repellents at the beginning and end of the day, times when Aedes aegypti bites the most, sleep under a mosquito net .
