The Flemish socialists in the capital will be led in the next elections by Brussels Secretary of State Ans Persoons, for the Brussels parliament, and by Flemish MP Hannelore Goeman, for the Flemish parliament, the party announced at a congress on Saturday in Saint-Gilles.
It was former Secretary of State Pascal Smet who opened the meeting. “We have participated in the change in Brussels in recent years and taken our responsibilities. We dare and act. The work is not finished, but I am convinced that our strong team will still be able to move Brussels forward,” he said .
The candidates will carry three main messages: “An inclusive and affordable Brussels”, “A city on a human scale, safe and clean” and “A city full of possibilities”.
Ans Persoons defended the results at the Region and at municipal level: “We dared to make a city intended for cars into a city on a human scale,” she said, once once more thanking her predecessor Pascal Smet – pushed to resign in mid-June in the visa affair for the mayor of Tehran -, as well as the aldermen.
Hannelore Goeman, for her part, insisted on education, “our top priority”. “Ideally, Brussels should run with our own people, teachers, police officers. Everyone must take responsibility, but the Flemish government is completely letting Brussels down,” she judged.
The full composition of the list will be revealed in December.
