Finding Calm in the Present Moment: Tips for Mindful Living at Work

Brains racing, busy days, running in the corridors so as not to waste a single moment, completing tasks without taking a break… We are quickly drawn into a sustained pace that tires us and stresses us out. Coming back to the here and now is a way to reduce the mental load and calm down for a few moments.

But is it really possible to live in the present moment at work?

Yes it is possible ! No need to retreat to nature, or to a quiet place, there are plenty of little moments in your day to experience it.

I offer you several tips to apply throughout your day to find calm.

Walk mindfully when you travel: when you go to the canteen, the photocopier, the locker room if you work in a workshop, concentrate on your steps, the movements of your legs, your arms, listen to the surrounding noises.

Take your break mindfully: smell the pleasant smell of your favorite hot drink, appreciate the flavors of your dish, listen attentively to your colleague who is speaking to you.

Work in full awareness: concentrate on the points of support of your body on the chair, your forearms and your hands on the desk if you work seated, concentrate on your feet anchored in the ground, on your gestures if you work standing.

Make your journeys between home and work mindfully: if you are traveling by car, concentrate on the points of support and the contact of your hands on the steering wheel. If you use public transport, observe the people around you, test your balance if you are standing by letting go of the support bar from time to time, concentrate on the points of support of your body on the seat if you are seated.
