Nipah Virus Outbreak: Two Individuals Under Observation in Thiruvananthapuram

Thiruvananthapuram – 2 people are under special observation in Thiruvananthapuram with symptoms of Nipah virus infection. A housewife from Kattakkada and a student of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College from Kozhikode are in the hospital due to fever and shortness of breath. Their saliva samples will be sent to IAV and Pune NIV for detailed testing.

A medical student from Kozhikode is under observation at the medical college following developing severe fever and headache. Vayodhika, a native of Kattakkada Maranallur, will be kept under observation at the government hospital in Airanimutta as she has fever. Their relatives reached Thiruvananthapuram from Mumbai via Kozhikode. Although the relatives have not come down to Kozhikode, the sample is being sent for testing due to concern.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Veena George said that there are no new Nipah cases in the state. The minister said that so far 94 samples have been tested negative. Today 11 samples are negative. The minister also stated that 21 people are in isolation in the medical college. There are two more children at IMCH. The health minister also informed that medical boards have been established in hospitals where people who have tested positive are being treated. The minister’s response was following a meeting of health experts in Kozhikode.
