Ode aan de Amstel is a wonderful restaurant located on the Amstel in Amsterdam East. When the weather is sunny you can enjoy the terrace by the water. The restaurant is also very nicely decorated inside, where you are welcome every day of the week for lunch, brunch or dinner.

All-day brunch of Chef’s menu

At Ode aan de Amstel you can enjoy a delicious lunch, brunch or dinner. For dinner you can choose one of the various all-day dining classics or the ‘Chef’s menu’. You can choose a three, four or five course dinner.

Our experience

We enjoyed a four-course dinner at Ode aan de Amstel on a sunny evening. Before it started, we started with a delicious cava and an Asian oyster with Thai chili oil, dill and seaweed. The oyster was nice and crunchy because of the salted chili that was sprinkled on top. Then we got an appetizer of tuna tartare. A good start to the evening!

First two courses

The ‘Chef’s menu’ started with a steak tartare. This steak tartare is served with a sauce of tarragon, aioli, mustard seeds placed in beetroot, fried Peking duck pancake, pecerino and olives. We thought the light red wine that was poured, a ManZ spätburgunder, matched the dish very well. The second course was a plaice fillet with parsley-lemon, beurre blanc, gnocchi and green summer vegetables. We drank a Joseph Cattin Pinot Blanc with this.

Three types of spring chicken

We got spring chicken as a main course. This was prepared in three different ways: sous vide, candied and baked. Apple cream, apple compote, lamb’s ears, candied potatoes, creamy chicken gravy and Asian vinegar complete this dish. With this dish we drank a nice glass of Charles Smith Kung Fu Girl Riesling.

Sweet ending with beetroot

Dessert was a big surprise! This was served with beetroot. In addition to beetroot, the dessert consisted of blackberry ice cream, chocolate crumble with salt, blackberries and merengue in the shape of mushrooms. We were also surprised with the matching drink, a Xyris Frizzante.

All in all, we had a wonderful evening at Ode aan de Amstel and we will definitely come back!
