“At the beginning, rock was a break, today it’s an institution,” says Yvan Sallin, one of the Friborg residents who has frequented the club since its opening in 1983. Far from the marginal character that sticks still like Fri-Son in its beginnings, rock became institutionalized over the years and gradually lost its subversive character.

At the turn of the 2000s, independent music venues will finally find favor with public authorities and the number of venues will explode in the country. From the mid-2000s, notably with the opening of the Salle des Docks in Lausanne, the legendary Friborg club will have to compete in ingenuity to manage to maintain a financial balance in this highly competitive landscape. Despite these major challenges, Fri-Son continues to attract a large number of young people, seduced by the aura that has radiated around this club since its beginnings.
