Kakamigahara City Water Source Inspection: PFAS Detection Raises Concerns

On the 15th, city council members inspected a water source in Kakamigahara City, Gifu Prefecture, where PFAS, which is known to be carcinogenic, was detected.

On the 15th, approximately 20 city council members inspected the water source in Kakamigahara City in response to a problem in which PFAS, an organic fluorine compound, exceeding the provisional target value had been detected in the water source.

The city has stopped drawing water from wells with high concentrations of PFAS and is installing activated carbon to remove PFAS.

After completing the inspection, Chairman Katsuhide Kawase defended the fact that the city had not announced the detection of PFAS for regarding three years, saying, “It was unavoidable because there was no precedent.”
