Same story with the CNE. “For me, this is a bad proposal,” reacted Myriam Djegham, national secretary of the CNE to Belga. It does not include “any progress on what the workers fought for,” she lamented.
“What management is proposing are measures that suit it,” continues Ms. Djegham, taking the example of a “bonus to encourage people to retire, which is a way of getting rid of staff members older and to facilitate “the sale” of stores, according to her. “We are getting rid of those 62 and over, all that for a bonus of 10,000 euros gross,” added Myriam Delmée (Setca). “That is telling the people leave and it doesn’t cost us too much. This will make it easier to resell the stores,” she said.
Concerning the “guarantees for those who remain, for us, there is nothing solid”, said Myriam Djegham (CNE).
“There is a reluctance on the part of management which shows us that the franchisees will do what they want” of the staff members who will stay, continues Myriam Delmée. “It will be haphazard, but what we want is certainty.”
Although they both judge management’s proposal negatively, the two unionists explain that they will now consult the staff representatives, who will have to take a position.
“New contacts will take place next week,” says Minister Dermagne.
Delhaize announced a few months ago that it wanted to sell all of its 128 owned supermarkets, a decision which has since caused persistent social unrest.
