More than 40,000 people flocked to San Francisco this week to attend Dreamforce, Salesforce’s annual conference ending Thursday. The customer relations software giant, which laid off 10% of its employees at the start of the year, did not skimp on resources: a street closed to traffic, a fake waterfall and fake grass to evoke a park natural, a Foo Fighters concert and a myriad of interventions, the most anticipated of which was undoubtedly a discussion between his charismatic boss Marc Benioff and Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI.
Generative AI was clearly the star of this event. Salesforce, which is facing pressure from activist funds to increase its margins, has increased its announcements to convince its customers to switch to more expensive subscriptions. It wants to distinguish itself from its competitors, led by Microsoft, with a seamless experience between its products.
